Care Instructions

1. Washing Guidelines (By Garment Type)

Tops (Chef Coats & Shirts)

    • Spot-treat deep stains with a Tide pen or gentle stain remover before washing.
Wash in cold water to minimize shrinkage and color fading.
    • Use a mild, enzyme-based detergent to break down food oils without damaging the fabric.
    • Turn garments inside out before washing to protect logos, buttons, and surface details.
    • Tumble dry on low heat, or shake out after washing and hang dry to help minimize wrinkles.

Bottoms (Pants, Jumpsuits, Overalls)

    • Machine wash on cold with similar colors; separate darks and lights.
    • Tumble dry on low heat, or shake out after washing and hang dry to help minimize wrinkles.
    • Fasten zippers and buttons to prevent snags or abrasion.
    • Avoid overloading the washer to reduce friction and preserve fabric quality.

Aprons

    • Remove any leather components before machine washing.
    • Shake off debris and pre-treat stains with a spot treater.
    • For waxed aprons, wipe clean with mild soap and a soft sponge. Machine wash to remove odor.
    • Tie or secure apron straps (or place in a laundry bag) to prevent tangling.
    • Use a gentle cycle for the first wash to help preserve color.
    • Hang dry or tumble dry on low/cool air.

2. Temperature & Cycle Recommendations

  • Cold is preferred; hot water may cause shrinkage or set stains.
  • Use gentle/delicate cycles, especially for printed or embroidered garments.
  • Always follow the specific instructions on each garment’s care label.

3. Drying Instructions

  • Air dry or line dry when possible to maintain fit and reduce wear.
  • If using a dryer, select low heat only.
  • Remove items promptly to prevent wrinkles.

4. Stain Treatment Tips

  • Pre-treat stains (oil, tomato, coffee, etc.) as soon as possible with mild stain remover or gentle dish soap.
  • For tougher stains, allow garments to soak briefly before washing.
  • Avoid chlorine bleach on colored fabrics to prevent fading or fiber damage.

5. Fabric Protection & Handling

  • Turn garments inside out to protect prints, embroidery, and color depth.
  • Avoid harsh detergents or bleach, which can weaken fibers and fade fabrics.
  • Skip fabric softeners on workwear, they can leave residue and reduce breathability.

6. Ironing & Finishing

  • Use medium heat when ironing.
  • Do not iron directly over logos or embroidery, turn garments inside out or use a pressing cloth.
  • For heavier fabrics (like denim aprons or pants), use a steam setting for best results.

7. Storage & Longevity Tips

  • Store garments completely dry to prevent mildew or odors.
  • Hang tops and aprons to maintain shape; fold bottoms as needed.
  • Repair loose threads or stitching early to extend the garment’s lifespan.

8. Safety & Sanitation Notes

  • For garments exposed to heavy food residue, wash soon after use to prevent bacteria buildup.
  • Certain fabrics may allow sanitize-cycle settings; always check the care label first.

Amazing chef coat

Looks good and the material is definitely high quality, the only thing I would note is that it runs in the larger side. I bought a Large and i feel like i could of gotten away with a Medium .

Chefs who want a sharp, tailored line with added mobility through the back and sides.Split longer back for flexibility, plus 100% polyester stretch side panels for breathability. From $92.00
Women’s Tailored Chef CoatChefs who want the same utility and stretch, with extra waist adjustability.Adjustable side tabs to cinch the waist, tailored for a women’s silhouette. From $92.00

Both coats share the same core build: a 59% cotton, 37% polyester, 4% spandex body; 100% polyester stretch panels along the sides; a soft chambray inner collar lining; and dedicated tool pockets (hip pocket plus an arm pocket sized for sharpies or tweezers). The rear neck apron tab is there to keep an apron strap from rubbing your neck, which matters once you’re deep into service.

If you’re choosing between fits, the men’s version is about that tailored silhouette with a split longer back that helps when you’re bending and reaching. If you need more control at the waist, the women’s coat adds adjustable side tabs. Frequently Asked Questions About Chef Coats

What fabric is this chef coat made from?

The body fabric is 59% cotton, 37% polyester, and 4% spandex. The stretch side panels are 100% polyester, placed along the sides for breathability and freedom of movement.

Does it have pockets for tools?

Yes. It has a hip pocket plus a specialized arm pocket designed for small tools like a sharpie or tweezers, so you’re not digging through apron pockets mid-station.

How does the apron tab work?

There’s a rear neck apron tab meant to hold the strap from any of TILIT’s chef aprons in place. It helps keep the strap from shifting and rubbing against your neck over a long shift.

What should I expect from the fit and mobility?

This is a tailored fit in white, with stretch performance panels on the sides and a split longer back designed to let you bend and reach without the coat riding up.

How should I wash and dry it?

For chef coats, TILIT recommends spot-treating stains before washing, washing in cold water, using a mild enzyme-based detergent, and turning the coat inside out to protect surface details like snaps. Tumble dry on low heat, or hang dry after shaking it out to help minimize wrinkles.
